Our downtown’s most iconic corridor is getting a transformational upgrade, one designed not just for today but for the future generations who will walk, shop, gather, and build memories here.
The New Palafox project brings over 1,700 linear feet of new stormwater piping, 46 ADA-compliant curb ramps, widened sidewalks, and improved intersections, and new mid-block crossings. Every improvement is crafted to elevate the pedestrian experience, support local businesses, and strengthen Pensacola’s long-term resilience.
This project is funded by the City of Pensacola Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) including Urban Core Hashtag and Complete Streets funds in addition to funding from Florida Power & Light.

New Stormwater System
A completely upgraded underground stormwater network designed to reduce flooding, strengthen downtown’s resilience, and keep Palafox functioning smoothly during heavy rain events.
ADA Accessibility Improvements
Improved curb ramps, smoother transitions, and safer crossings ensure downtown is welcoming, accessible, and easier to navigate for everyone.
Expanded Sidewalks
Wider sidewalks create more room for pedestrians, outdoor dining, events, and everyday movement — shaping a more vibrant, walkable corridor.
412 Free Designated Parking Spaces
Convenient, free designated parking access surrounding the project area makes it easier than ever to support downtown businesses throughout construction.
Tree Canopy Enhancements
New landscaping will expand shade and enhance the natural beauty of Palafox. The project adds 42 new trees, 114 modular metal planters, and new irrigation to support a stronger, healthier tree canopy.
